Endodontics is a branch of dentistry concerned with the prevention and treatment of inflammation around the roots of teeth. In the case of inflammation, bacterial infection of the dental cavity, the process is irreversible and root canal treatment is necessary. In the majority of cases, the inflammation is accompanied by excruciating pain that is difficult to relieve and eventually leads to the death of the tooth. During the treatment, the dental cavity and root canals are opened up, chemically and mechanically disinfected, and sealed with a so-called root canal sealant, while removing as little tooth material as possible. The cornerstone of the procedure is the isolation of the treated tooth from the oral cavity to prevent re-infection. In our practice, we use a new root canal needle for each patient to avoid needle breakage and infection.
