Emdogain regenerative surgery is a specialised dental procedure used to treat periodontal disease and periodontal bone loss. Emdogain is a protein matrix (enamel matrix derivative) applied as a gel to the surface of the tooth root to promote natural tissue regeneration, including the rebuilding of bone, cementum and periodontal fibres.
It is used:
- For periodontal disease, if there is bone loss around the teeth
- To support regeneration in case of bone loss around dental implants.
- After dental trauma, if the structure of the gum needs to be restored.
The procedure:
- Preparation: the dentist thoroughly cleans the area to be treated, removing infected tissue.
- Application of Emdogain: The gel is applied to the surface of the tooth root, where it activates the regeneration process.
- Wound closure: the area is carefully closed and the patient is given the necessary aftercare instructions.
Benefits:
- It triggers natural regeneration by activating the body’s own cells.
- Minimises the need for surgical intervention in the future.
- It improves the stability of teeth and increases their lifespan.
