A biofilm is made up of cells of microorganisms stuck together on a surface to form a continuous coating. Dental plaque is a biofilm that forms on hard surfaces in the oral cavity, such as teeth, implants and dentures. As the primary aetiological factor for dental caries and periodontal disease, the removal of dental plaque is cardinal. Dental plaque adheres very tightly to different surfaces and can only be removed by mechanical destruction. With GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy®) up to 100% of the biofilm can be removed. As part of the process, we make the biofilm on the teeth and gums visible with a process called plaque staining. The result is immediately visible, if there is no stain, there is no biofilm. It is painless, comfortable and takes less time than traditional ultrasound treatment.
